Formula

screen width = diagonal x 16 / sqrt(16^2 + 9^2)
horizontal field of view = 2 x atan(screen width / (2 x viewing distance))
pixels per degree = horizontal pixels / field of view

The method estimates how many pixels fit into one degree of your horizontal field of view. If a resolution reaches the selected PPD threshold, extra resolution becomes harder to see from that distance.

Assumptions and methodology

Is 4K worth it for a 65-inch TV?

Is 8K worth it for normal TV viewing?
